Background
BYOD stands for Bring Your Own Device. We use this term for devices that Parkland College doesn't own or control. Examples are staff and student personal laptops, phones, and tablets. Our BYOD printing solution allows these types of devices to print to our copiers and printers with a secure and convenient service.
Requirements
The details of use may be slightly different depending on the device and operating systems but generally these are the requirements:
- A valid username@pcstudents.ca account. All print jobs have to be logged to an account before they can be printed.
- The device has to be connected to a Parkland College wireless network.
- Up-to-date operating system on the device and the device to be working without issue.
- Appropriate print credits available on your account. Each student is provided with enough credit for a reasonable amount of printing throughout their semesters with us. *Note that colour printing costs significantly more than black and white.
Preparing Your Device for BYOD Printing
With the exception of Apple devices (Macbooks, iPhones, and iPads) you will need the Papercut client installed on your device. Apple devices can find available copiers and printers via their native AirPrint capabilities.
To install the client, first head to https://public.parklandcollege.sk.ca and select the BYOD Print tile. The page served will try its best to determine the type of device you are using and provide the relevant information. If it fails to do so, there are manual device selection options at the bottom of the page.
In either case, click the relevant installer link to start the installation process and follow the steps provided. You will be asked at some point to log into your account in order to access available printers. If you find that you have forgotten your password, please follow the steps in the Resetting a Forgotten Password article.
Printing and Accessing Your Jobs
To print a document to a College device you follow the same steps as printing to any other printer. Clicking print will send the job to the selected College device and await your authentication on the device before it will be released.
To release your print job walk up to the device, tap your student card and watch for your document to start printing.
*If this is your first time accessing a College copier or printer you may have to associate your student card to your College account. This procedure only has to be done once.
Disclaimer
While Parkland College strives to ensure positive staff and student experiences we cannot guarantee all possible combinations of devices, operating systems, and configurations will work. This service is provided with "Best Effort" priority.
