Wireless screen sharing allows people to share their screen with sound in a classroom without having to hook up cables. This is done with a program on the classroom's computer called AirServer. When this program is running, a user can share their screen and audio in the classroom; wirelessly.
Requirements
- A classroom setup for wireless screen sharing
- A reasonably modern device running:
- Google Android (phones and tablets)
- Google ChromeOS (Chromebooks)
- Apple iOS (Phones and iPads)
- Apple MacOS (laptops)
- Windows 8.1, 10 (laptops)
- Sharing device must be connected the Parkland College wireless network. For personal devices this network needs to be pcguest
Setting up the Classroom
For security, wireless screen sharing is not active until it is started on the classroom computer.
Set up Display
Power on the projector or SMART Display within the classroom
Starting AirServer
Log into the classroom computer and click the start button. You should see "AirServer Universal (x64)" as a folder. Click it once and you will see the menu expand. Click AirServer Universal (x64) as illustrated in the picture. This will start AirServer.
Look in the bottom right corner on the computer's taskbar. You can right click this icon and go to Settings... to double check the Classroom name. The name of the classroom will be beside "Computer name:"
Sharing From Your Device
Depending on your device, the method for sharing your screen can be different. Below we outline screen sharing on common devices
iOS Devices
- Drag from either the top right corner (iPhones with FaceID) or from the bottom (iPhones with a Home button) to get to the Control Centre. You should see "Screen Mirroring" as an option.
- Choose the corresponding classroom name to share your screen.
MacBooks
- Click the control centre icon in the task bar and choose "Screen Mirroring" .
- Choose the corresponding classroom name to share your screen.
Android Devices
- Locate the Google Home app.
- From within the Google Home app, click the bottom right icon (person).
- Under "Additional" on the left menu, you should see "Mirror device". Click that and you should get to the area where you can select "Cast screen/audio".
- Choose the corresponding classroom name to share your screen.
Chrome OS Devices (Chromebooks)
- Click on the date and time area. This should give you the "Cast" option.
- Select it and choose the classroom you want to cast to.
- You should get a pop up with the option to select which screen you want to share along with a share audio checkbox.
- Click the screen you would like to share and click "Share".
Windows Devices
- Press the Windows + P keys on your keyboard to get the pop up on the right side. Click "connect to a wireless display" and then select the desired Classroom in the list that you want to connect to.
- Once you are connected to the desired classroom, you can change the display options. Click "change projection mode" if you want to change it from duplicate, extend, etc.
